Looking into the new AI eyewear, what it does and what it means for the future of technology.
Meta glasses are AI-powered eyewear that allow you to capture photos and videos while also listening to music and take calls through speakers that are built into the arms,-while being able to still hear the outside world. They don’t cut you off from reality: they add a layer of technology on top of it.
There's also an AI assistant that’s completely hands free. By simply saying “Hey Meta” you can ask questions, set reminders, translate languages and get real time information based on what you’re looking at. The Meta glasses have an app that allows you to directly share content to social media apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
These remarkable new glasses are said to grow to around 20 million units sold this year alone and Meta dominate 80% of AI and smart glasses market due to its popularity. Celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Mark Zuckerberg and Chris pratt can be found wearing and promoting them, their target audience, tech savvy social media natives, fashion- conscious consumers and content creators.
The market is shifting from Meta being the single dominate maker of AI glasses to potentially a three way competition with google, Samsung and apple, but Meta sees this as motivation to nail the transition from smart glasses to AR wearables before the competitors which would mean they would own the next major computing interface.
Not only this but it could in fact be the end of smartphones as we know it and meta has developed a Neural Band wristband that uses muscle signals to let you control your glasses and potentially other devices in your home. All from tiny wrist movements without touching anything at all.
Meta is also developing dual-display glasses with screens integrated into both lenses, meaning you could be walking through a busy town with real life directions on one lens while checking messages and emails on the other, seamlessly overlapping the digital and physical world.
